One of the big challenges customers face when they enter in the Hadoop echo system is to decide on a reporting and analytics tool. While there are many reporting & analytic tools out in the market place, there seem to be a few that can access a Hadoop cluster natively and provide reporting and analytics for users as if they were using excel.
One company I have found that seems to stand out amongst the others is a firm called Datameer based in San Francisco. Datameer was founded in 2009 and is backed by world renowned venture capital firm Kliner Perkins. Datameer works with major Hadoop distribution such as, Cloudera, Hortonworks & Map-R natively.
Datameer’s current customers include Visa, Citi, AT&T, Sears, Bank of America. Firms use cases for Datameer include: Fraud & Compliance, Customer Analytics, Data Driven, Service and Operational Analytics. Most recently Datameer introduced Smart Execution™ that will enable Datameer customers to dramatically accelerate data workloads and be able to leverage new advances in the Hadoop ecosystem. Smart Execution™ is a 100% native Hadoop YARN application, running on any Hadoop 2.2-compatible or later version, including Cloudera CDH and Hortonworks’ HDP, with zero installation required.
Datameer is one of the most open Hadoop analytics platform I have seen on the market. Datameer uses the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) to easily import, export, store and manage data. Custom MapReduce jobs can be integrated and harmonized using concepts like the Datameer Data Links and the REST API.
